A FEISTY AND SOBERING GUIDE TO DOING WHAT YOU LOVE AND (ALSO)(STILL)(SOMEHOW) PAYING THE BILLS
I loved this book. It is definitely NOT a tidy recipe for how to find and monetize your purpose in life. (Thank goodness.) Instead, Rob invites us to take a raw, honest look at our lives- our cringe-y decisions and our soaring successes and our failures and our surprising left turns- and then use those moments to answer this question: what now? The vulnerable, funny, as-yet-untold stories from Rob’s own winding (and fascinating) life will take you by the hand and give you permission to embark on whatever path it is that stirs up the most curiosity in you. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll even find a way to pay the bills.

I'm drinking champagne so I decided to try "This is about his journey behind the scenes the world didn’t see. "Rob Bell best-selling author" versus "rob bell wants to know 'What the heck is going on here?'" Navigating through tours and wins and fails and crys and questions and the in-betweens - that's where this lands. What is success? What is marketing? How are we doing? How are you doing? How am I doing? This book rides the waves of questions that come with creating."

The world needs more books like this – honest, confronting, a real ‘behind the scenes’ look at making money with a creative life. If you’re looking for yet another ‘6 step framework to success’ this is NOT for you. However, if you’re looking for real talk look no further. I laughed, I cried, I felt so seen, I’ve already listened through it several times and will be listening again. This is a refreshing take on real life and as a fellow entrepreneur listening to this is like a healing balm for my soul.

How often have you read a “self-help” book, only to stop reading at chapter 4 because there were too many steps to follow and the promise of a miraculous outcome felt too distant. I’m sure I’m not the only one. So imagine how surprised I felt before listening to the last chapter of Rob’s book, to find I had already achieved “the thing” this book sets out to do: doing the thing I love and still somehow paying the bills. Before reading this book, I had a dream that lay dormant for 5 years. After reading this, I have just launched a podcast sharing stories rich in memories and meaning through plants and gardens and … it has led to paid work to pay the bills! Did I follow Rob’s step by step plan? No. Because there was none. But, in his sharing his story, I found my story. I used the ideas inside these episodes to tap into myself, trust the process and just take the next step. Life is good!

I've stopped being surprised by how Rob Bell, by simply being himself, doing what he loves and paying the bills, manages to bring such timely and much needed wisdom into my life. It's uncanny. But maybe that's just the way the universe works, who knows. After listening to this today I'm reminded that it's all a journey, that I'm on the journey, that I'm in the adventure called my life. That my journey doesn't have to look like someone else's, that it doesn't all have to make sense, that it doesn't all have to work. What does the future hold? I have no idea, but I feel drawn to writing again, so I know what a next step looks like and that's good enough. Pure inspiration which I will listen to again and again. Thanks Rob!
